Cotton candy can be found at every carnival that will certainly be the attraction of many children including the adults. It is definitely an all-time favourite. Party rental for candy floss machine has become very popular for any events including birthday parties, carnivals, fundraising and even for weddings. This fluffy candy brings excitement and joy to many people and it is essential for special events. Otherwise known as ‘fairy floss’, ‘candy floss’ or ‘sugar floss’, it could not be done without the help of technology.
Rolling back to the year 1899, John C.Wharton, a candy maker and William J.Morrison, a dentist was granted a patent to invent a machine that spun sugar which is usually made by hand. The first cotton candy machine enables sugar to be heated up and melted by using electric heating instead of an open fire. The machine contains a bowl at the centre of the machine holding a mixture of sugar, corn syrup, food colouring, water and flavourings. The mixture is then melted with the help of the electrical heating element that is found at the top edge of the bowl which then melts the mixture into a syrup.
The cotton candy machine then starts to rapidly spin and flings threads of hot sugar syrup through the small holes in a funnel that is found at the centre of the machine. This was done with the help of centrifugal force. The machine also contains an outer large bowl that will immediately cool and collect the molten threads of sugar when it solidifies in the air as it spins.
Overtime, the candy threads accumulates on the walls of the large bowl and enables candy makers to collect the fluffy candy and spin the strands according to the desired shape on a paper or sticks. This confection is almost 99.99% sugar. The dashes of food colouring are added to change the natural white colour of the sugar and numerous flavours have been used to change the taste. The top flavoured-colours are blue raspberry and pink vanilla.
Since the invention in 1899, the creations and innovations of the machine become greater as the machine is improvised overtime. This cotton candy machine is simply not a machine for producing carnival food but it is a machine that allows you to be creative and have fun being a candy maker.
